I do not mean to hog the posts here so tell me to stop if I am posting too many pics, but I hope this will help inspire people for new ideas. Here is my Corinthian with the new subarmour of 5 layered linen per row of pteryges. I think it really made the finishing touch to this impression and makes it "pop" a lot more than the fringed earlier attempt......AND you can actually see the chiton now....

I had to ham it up a bit for this photo, but I really like this pose in the armour.

Thanks for the remarks.

Giannis,

I actually do have plans to make an aspis like my previous ones with a full metal outer layer. I just have to build up the motivation to do it. My idea will involve practically making two (1 to use, and one form to hammer the metal to proper shape).

I am planning to make one like the methods I have shown in my detailed thread and then make a block of wood with the outside diameter being used for the inside diameter. Basically, my idea is to cut out the outside diameter of a ring method shield only while leaving a thick square of wood around the outside of this cut.

I am going to then glue all 10 layers together leaving a 6" thick square of wood with the outer profile of the aspis as the inside profile of the form. Then I will slowly fit the sanded outside of my aspis into the sanded inside profile of the form. Once they fit perfectly, I will dish the metal for my outer layer into the form.

I would guess within the next 12 months, plan on seeing it on these forums somewhere. For now, I am on vacation for a while!

This was going to be MY hell of a project! Unfortunately no time left this summer...so it will have to wait till the next one(and by that time you will have doe all the hard work and mistakes, and then as your signature says,I will be a truely wise man 8) Seriously, looking forward to see how it will progress.
