Wow... I really love your feasting pictures, they are really evocative ... Are you using a large pavillion style marquee with liners? - they look really great...

Just made a boeotian hat. Used to be a female hat that i modified, made of thick natural wool felt. I think this look suits to hypaspistae of very wealthy hoplites, usually shown carrying a pair of spears. Or to poor hoplites, like the Plataians were depicted in the Poikile stoa in Athens. Some times even hunters are shown in such outfit. Also travellers and Hermes (add winged boots).
I experimented a bit with the straps trying to create the late boeotian helmet's look. I was only partially satisfied and since i haven't seen such a hat worn in that way in art, especially in early classical times,i decided to go with the traditional way.
I have to admit that the stripes on top seem only decorative. It can't be that they were pulling them down to secure them to the chin and back of the head!

Usually the boeotian hats are shown with narrower brims, but this is not universal. Perhaps the only 5th century boeotian helmet shown in a sculpture has a relatively wide brim and this vase clrearly shows a hat that looks more like a boeotian than a petassos, with a wide brim: http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o118 ... mnos-1.jpg
