Sad news. McBride's artwork inspired many modellers, artists, reenactors and readers to study and create for themselves. That's a good legacy, I think.

And a legacy that will live and continue to inspire. A good legacy. But sad news.

So very sad. I still consider much of his work as absolutely fabulous - it easily transports me back in time.
I have a half-dozen of his paintings on my walls...

That's really sad news. I've been an admirer of his work for a very long time. Not a good day.

It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Very sad - I was literally admiring his artwork in an Osprey not five minutes ago.

All of Angus McBride's publications for Osprey: http://www.ospreypublishing.com/author_ ... 1&show=all Let's not forget that he also illustrated Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings:

Postscript:
I just noticed during an Amazon search that Osprey planned a book for coming November, on Herod the Great's army, which Angus McBride was to illustrate: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Army-Herod-Grea ... 2&sr=1-109

Quote:Postscript: Robert, If the book is scheduled for November, I'd think it possible that the Angus McBride completed the artwork before he died. Osprey authors complete the design briefs then move on to the text, so the artwork is normally ready at least six months before publication. Books have to be ready months, if not a year, in advance so they can find a place on the publication schedule. Also, I know from experience that Mcbride could work really fast when he wanted to. So you'll probably have another book to add to your collection. R

Very very sad. He probably was and will be the best military illustrator. His legacy never will die.
I am very interested in the evolution of the roman army from Gallienus to Heraclius (c. 260-640)
