Like the time they had them bottled up on the Capitoline Hill and the geese gave away their night attack. And wasn't there that business about the Romans trying to buy them off and the Celts using dodgy weights to measure the gold? What was the phrase employed? "Woe to the vanquished!" wasn't it? And good old Connolly mentions something about the Roman phalanx being trampled into the ground (by Celts) at the Allia. Mind you, of course, if we look at all of Rome's history, we find them also being defeated by the Greeks...
All that aside, consider this: If you call to mind the great conquering nations of history, how many of them do you think would have been congenial companions in peacetime?
