Stop the Dolphin Massacre
#42
Quote:Do we object in killing an animal or on the way it is killed?

I know I play rthe devils advocate here but I guess some has to.

Kind regards

I believe it's how it's killed. In Canada much of our cattle are killed by a device which fires a 22 caliber bullet into the skull of the animal. Chickens have their heads cleaved off. There is no pain because the brain is essentially killed immediately, or the nerver impulses are severed. I know because my Uncle and g/f's dad are both Cattle farmers, and I asked.

Let's theoretically pretend Stephanos, that for whatever reason you were to be executed for some type of crime. Would you rather your death be quick and painless, or would you like to be executed in the same manner as those dolphins? Including being dragged behind a truck from your prison cell to the execution area.

Quote:If people create some sort of farm to have number of this species and kill them for reasons other than food but they leave wild life undisturbed do we object?

What else do we need to kill animals for other than food? Sport? That's hardly a just cause, and I think it's bloody rediculous that there are farms or reserves specifically for the hunting of animals and that is it. How would you feel Stephanos if you were placed on one of these reserves, with no clothes, no weapons just what you were born with, and told to run. In 10 minutes a group of qualified hunters were going to come kill you, with long range weapons. What's the piont in that? It'd be different if you had camouflage clothing, and your own weapon to fight back, but that's not the case.

What else do we kill animals for...oh yes...their bloody skins. This isn't the dark ages. We have synthetics or plant based fabrics to clothe ourselves in. Even fake furs can look convincing.

No, there is no justifiable reason to kill anything unless you NEED to eat it, or it is self defence. Anything else is just stupid human behavior. And i'm sorry, the fact that the world is starving is maybe a wake up call for these over populated countries to stop breeding like jack-rabbits. Or maybe they can start eating each other? That would solve 2 problems at once.

Quote:Matt ,I view your suggestions on populations not negatively but when it come to humans usually the worst elements of any group survive because they are the meanest.

100 years ago, I'd have agreed 100% with you. However, today whoever is smarter, usually wins out in the survival game. We're intelligent enough as a species to make the right choice and live in balance with nature, as well as learn to treat not just animals, but each other humanely and with respect. Problem is the average human just doesn't give a crap about 99.9% of the other living things on this planet. We're at the point technologically that we don't have to resort to cave man behavior in order to survive. We just lack the responsibility and will to be better than what we are. I mean let's face it...it's a lot easier to be rude to someone than it is to be nice. And it all starts with simple things like that.

Quote:Sorry to say that but only under controlled environment "humain" ways of slaughter can be devised. (Dolphin farm Confusedhock: )

Yeah, I agree. Which is why all of these unregulated poo-poo operations need to be shut down! I don't have any issue with such "farms", so long as killing is done humanely. Ever seen any footage of how Kobi Beef is slaughtered in some parts of Japan? Try torture and then a slow killing. If you don't see anything wrong with that then there is a fundamental issue with how you view other living beings.

I love meat. And if I were faced with a food shortage, I'd gladly hunt to feed myself and my loved ones. But I HATE killing. Killing is death without purpose. There is no purpose for the death of these dolphins. And it's a greater tragedy that the meat is being sold as whale meat, which I don't think needs to be hunted either.

On another note...look at the Canadian Seal hunt...it's been boycotted by several EU nations, and it's having an effect. People are being educated on HOW they kill the seals, and it's absolutely barbaric.

If the human race as a species wants to better itself and be true custodians of this planet, then we need to act accordingly.

We can start by respecting the other life on this planet.
