Ummm....Byran, the mainz style gladius is a bit too early for the 30th...Fulham style at least, but definately pompeii style. Who told you to get the Mainz style? That's more of a republican/very early imperial blade.

There's nothing wrong with the bone pommel and guard I don't think...I don't have the home library though to say definatively yes or no. I don't think it's a problem...same as some pugiones may have had organic hand grips instead of metal.

Bone handled Pompeii gladius. The bone is layered to reach correct thicknesses, and seems quite sturdy. Same great blade shape and scabbard as the 4211 above. Proper inset brass guard, no ricasso, easy to sharpen. On the whole a good choice for the re-enactor. (SOTW)

As far as being a economical choice it is considering you get the RAT discount at SOTW so it is even better.
