The Falx

Sorry mate, I don't see how the fauchard is much different to the falx in both form and function.

A polearm is a blade attached to the end of a stick to increase range and/or angular momentum when slashed with.

Shouldnt that shield be angled out at the bottom about a foot or so to represent how it was actually held? So instead of whacking straight down on the top edge you would be trying to cleave into a curved face with a boss and the target shouldnt be rock steady, in reality the holder of the shield will buckle some with the impact which will bleed off some of the weapons energy instead of it all going into the shield.


Sure this is a damn impressive image though.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, the shield is far less rigidly mounted than it looks in this picture.

This is also a picture of the "Whack the shield straight down on the top edge" test. There was also a "whack the the shield on the side edge" test and a "whack the shield on the face" test. In both cases the falx did just what you see it doing here - cleaved its merry way through the scutum.
