some observations re the items at the exhibition<br>

the dagger/gladius - first image- it didnt look like a broken off gladius - it looked as if that was its full length. at the top of the handle is a diamond piece - unfortunately I didnt note what type of metal<br>

the gladius- second image- was displayed the other way up - the belt plate under the scabbard.<br>
<br>
<br>
the gladius with 'frame'- third image- the frame did not appear to be fixed to the scabbard- my impression was that it was a belt. although quite how it was constructed I have no idea! If you look carefully at the pic youll see that the 'frame' is somewhat narrower than the scabbard<br>
<br>
these were by no means the only military fiitings on display<br>
<br>
there were parts from two other scabbards, some belt plates and buckles - dagger frog and a clump of 5 apron terminals<br>
<br>
there wee two gladiator daggers<br>
and one gladiator helmet- which had a motif of captives, etc<br>
<br>
