Wooden Spoon

Is an example really neccessary? Some items are so basic they trancsend a particular culture.

So long as it is made from a wood that was available to the Romans, whether utilitarian or stylized, a hand carved spoon is going to look like a hand carved spoon. Unless you incorporate inapropriate symbols or lettering, almost anything you do could be ascribed to one of the constituent races or cultures that make up the Roman Empire.

Are you intending something nondescript or will it imbue something to give it a unique character?
