English language questions
#1
Two questions; hopefully one of the native speakers can help me.

(1)
If a city has town walls that reach the sea, somehow it seems to be incorrect to be speaking about "the city's southern coast" or "southern shore", which seems a normal expression if the same piece of land was unoccupied. What's a good English word to describe the southern coast of a city?

(2)
Is it possible to describe a tower in a city wall as a "catapult battery", or is that too modern?

Thanks - I am preparing pages on the famous walls of Constantinople; the photos are already available here.
