Hi guys
It's great to see the quality and intensity of debate this thread is generating.
I sensed a few shared frustrations surrounding the interpretation of Vegetius (always happens, doesn't it?), so I thought I might create a little "spin-off" thread ("Vegetius and other Late Roman Sources").
I think it's about time Vegetius got outed. Not only Vegetius, but anyone else of the late 4th early 5th centuries who might need a bit of free-and-frank "head-kicking" (discursively-speaking of course).
