I think you underestimate the art of Thucydides Giannis. It does not, to my reading anyway, imply that other Athenian armies were equipped poorer. Thucydides is launching his description of the greatest Hellenic action in his memory. Chapters six and seven will be his literary â€œSicilianâ€
