Pompeii Gladius and Scabbard - Work in Progress
#44
Well, those lines may or may not be there. I haven't seen actual lines, except for the thicker band across where the suspension band would have gone. However, in view of all the arguments stated, I am more then happy to revise my oppinion on the strips and concede there could very well have been thin strips nailed in place on either side of the suspension bands. I got hung up on the soldering issue, believing the total locket would have been pre-assembled before fitting it to the scabbard and attaching the locket with the small nails and the suspencion bands crimped around it. In Crispvs interpretation, this pre assembly would still be possible, interpreting the small nails as small rivets, fixing the strips in place prior to the mating of scabbard and suspention bands.
