I would recommend against electroplating simply because the Romans didn't do it. Get a jar of the Johnson's E-127 Flux-N-Solder for tinning.

For soldering, most any plumber's or electronics solder should work. Tin items before you solder them together, or the heat of tinning may melt your solder joints. But there isn't much on a sword scabbard that really needs to be soldered, except probably the finial.
