australian trek review
#1
Members of Australian groups including RiFF (Reenactment For Fun), Mare Nostrum, Sydney ancients and Armidale Ancients are currently recooperating from a 37 km "March of Death"where two thracians, two Hellenes with three helots and three Republican Romans banded together for the experience near Manilla NSW. We followed a dirt road through hilly terrain. We had a rest day on the third day where we held a mini olympics that included javelin, shot put and discus, (celtic) wrestling and spared as Hoplites and later drilled as Romans, before highing the last 14 km on the fourth day to our destination.
We camped in a variety of tents and "hootchies" strong with the smell of lannolin. We ate authentically and were supported by a "mule" (read car and trailer)
I have learnt to hate hobnails  .
Overall it was a great experience which we intend to repeat - but likely there will be more Thrakians in future!
