Events that allow women portraying soldiers?
#78
Quote:I guess most of us have read a lot of opinions regarding women portraying soldiers. And I know that that debate is not going to end anytime soon. So I'd like to ask for it to not continue in this topic.

But the fact is, we do have women in our group, and some of them prefer impressions of the military kind. So I would like to ask about people's experience with this topic, and because we're a European group, I would most appreciate information about events in Europe.

I do know some events that allow this, and I know many don't. The trouble is, many people have strong views on this topic, to the point of giving those with opposing views decidedly unflattering labels. And no matter how bitter a pill the following is, one doesn't wish to hurt the whole group by being seen as pushing some ideology too hard.

So if you could point me in the direction of events that do allow women in "male" impressions, or at least share your experiences regarding this matter, I'd be most grateful.

I'm female, and at the moment, I am currently portraying a soldier or close to one -- tunica, sandals, belt and I'm normally wearing a focle, gladius and pugio then a cloak depending on the weather. This is only planned to be temporary however, as I'm working on getting together the right gear to do a gladiatrix impression. The group I'm with does not permit women in men's roles, but as I wanted to learn how to fight regardless, that was the next best thing -- I'm learning both Celtic and Roman methods of fighting as well as hopefully drill come Spring, so s'all good.

I, sadly, can't point you to any events but that is some experience on the subject from my point of view Smile

Glasses in my avatar are so then I\'m not squinting and giving myself a headache. Generally not worn while on site, if I can help it.
