This has been an enjoyable debate friends and good points raised by all, history leaves us dead in the water but its great fun to ponder the possibilities, maybe one day it will be discovered, until then we'll have to make allowances for different leadership and tactics when it comes to recreating and revering the past, I for one favor the idea of opening and closing gaps as needed, directed by banner and horns, but where were these banner men and trumpeters in the ranks along with the ole centurion and optio (who I do view as a first sergeant and platoon sergeant of sorts despite the cringing by some or many, lol), where were they indeed; I'd like to think more forward and deserving of all the "medals" on their chest!
