Looking for a legionary
#5
I thought of Atilius myself and found the Spanish one and his family.  As you say though, there is nothing there to suggest he was a soldier.  I think the Legio I Adiutrix suggestion might be a possibility, as Legio I Adiutrx and Legio XIIII were both stationed at Mainz at about the same time (although I haven't found an Arilius/Aurelius Genialis in the Leg I Adiutrix records for Mainz).  Brigetio and Carnuntum are only about 90km apart as well, so Leg XIIII GMV and Leg I Adiutrix may have had a lot to do with each other after both were moved to the Danube frontier.  Do you know if the are any Leg XIIII men commemorated in Brigetio?  If there are, that might possibly have led to a misidentification of a Leg I man as a Leg XIIII man.

Sadly the man who compiled the list of Leg XIIII soldiers' names has died now, so I am unable to ask him what his sources were.
Who is called \'\'Paul\'\' by no-one other than his wife, parents and brothers.  :!: <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_exclaim.gif" alt=":!:" title="Exclamation" />:!:
