Pretani or Britons, Iernei or Hibernians all sound fine to me.

I can't for the life of me remember where I read this, but Pytheas was following the routes already covered by earlier Phoenician sailors wasn't he? It is well known these Punic mariners visited Cornwall (Belerion) for tin. As with much of Greek there may well have been earlier Phoenician words. Pytheas may have been the first on record to note some of these places and terms (like Thoule) and perhaps got the term Pretania (similar after all to the Welsh Ynys Prydein) from some of its inhabitants.
