New replica of a watchtower nears completion
#3
Hi Matt,

Yes, I was not altogether coherent before - they were made of wood in the early stages, but apparently not of the 'cabin'-construction type.
It IS close to me, 10 minutes by car, about 4 miles on foot. it's being built by our 'Forestry Commission' (Staatsbosbeheer) which has the care of many ancient buildings in a country setting. A bit like The National Trust or English Heritage in the UK. Very non-profit though, mainly concerned with preservation and information. The tower is next to the site of the castellum (which kies under an orchard), but also directly next to the 19th century fortress, which was built on top of the vicus.
Yes, we get to play on it all the sundays that we want, and get paid for it as well..
