Meloncat, as near as I can discover (haven't read all of H. yet) he simply says that the Persians adopted Egyptian thorakes. Paullus had a post in Linothorax design/construction some years ago that points out how the Egyptians were associated with linen thorakes including in H. and the connection would be drawn from there even though it's not said explicitly.
