Elephants in the Partho-Sasanian Period
#3
A description of elephants in battle from Ambrose of Milan:

“As a result, the battle line with its battalions drawn up in wedge formation gives way before them. The camping grounds which were laid out in blocks of squares have completely vanished.”

It seems according to Ambrose a cuneus formation was used against elephants. Also the Roman camp in Ambrose’s day (AD 390’s) was still the same as in yesteryears, composed of squares.

Another thing of note, when read in context, could the cunei be composed of / are equal to turmas cavalry?
