Got the following from Susanna Ruhling of Musica-Romana<br>

'Maybe that is a "salpinx" , the Greek version of a Roman "tuba", made out of bronze or copper and not blown as a trompet, but instead with a reed, like a bagpipe.<br>
That would explain the think face of the blower and the think blowing end...a tuba would be smaller.'<br>

I think the long key is connected to a mute: the variations in sound would be entertaining, and can sound like a wide variety of human sound. Think Harpo Marx in Duck Soup, having a telephone conversation just with his horn.<br>
