Well to state the obvious the one bit of achaeological evidence we do have is of an iron cuirass.
And not every tube and yoke shows flexibility.
And we do see the use of copper alloy scales to make a composite cuirass in inconography.
Metal beats leather in terms of protection.
So why not?
