I made the poles in sections so I don't have to fiddle around with 3 meter long poles.
But it's still a lot of wood to transport.
I'm packing the canvas in a compression bag.
Quote:Does it have a "door" that can be closed over the opening? Nice work, and a clever, simple design.
Yes it has, I roll it up to the right and tie it down with ribbons.
Made the door two meters wide to demonstrate my shoemaking.
It has a grommet/loop closing.
With the little awning I can sit at the doorway even when it rains.
The rawhide windows can be removed.
Alum tanning. Yes, I am leaving mine white to represnt that.
I wish it was a leather one.

I always thought that alum-tanned leather was not as supple as some other types of tanning... That would seem to be a problem when folding a tent for transport.
And what about resistance to water damage? I think I read somewhere that alum tanning produces a leather which can rot quite easily when left in water, which would not be the best when campaigning during a wet season...
Wouldn't vegetable or brain tanning be a more logical tanning process to use for tent-making leather?
I still wonder whether goats hair weave was at least as common as leather. Lighter to carry, waterproof, and no shortage of goats!! Does anyone know of any goats weave that has survived?
I'm not sure about the aspects of alum tanning. I believe it was quite common in Britania,
from what I have been told. I agree, if it rots in the rain, it would be a poor choice...
I will have too look into it.
Seems the fence stain is back on the cards again!
