Quote:Ever been to Bavaria Kat? It is absolutely epic.
Noo I havent. I've been around the Rhineland (or Rheinland?) twice when at school... Hanau, Koln, Boppard, Heidleburg... around there.
I really liked Germany though, the people were lovely that I met so want to visit some other parts. The language is great too... at least the bits I can recall

Quite right too Sir! When everybody gets together at Kalkriese (if that ever happens), we should all bring our ethnic costumes:
Decius - lederhosen.
Lochinvar - kilt.
Libitina - something suitably impressive!!!!!
Aaaargghh, I'm editing this like fury. My posting does not follow Decius' last one, honest. He kind of interposed that last one

do you agree: the scottish are kind of like the bavarians of the UK.
both speak weird dialects, wear remarkable ethic costumes and live in the mountains.

I think there's a degree of truth in that... or at least we fondly imagine we live in the mountains while actually inhabiting cities. But hey, we like a good party.

Even scarier: My friend's new baby son is called George
Lochinvar- My ancestry's a bit of a mixture so I'll turn up in a bit of everyone's national costume. I'll wear a kilt, some lederhosen on my head and drape some onions around my neck

fun fact: bavarians used to pee on their lederhosen before wearing them first time to guarantee a correct fit.

This has nothing to do with it. This is peeing on purpose.
[size=75:3aj7xufx]I have to admit, I am a Beutebayer (looted-bavarian), since I am in fact Allgäuer, or more precisely, Ostallgäuer. The Allgäu is culturally different from Bavaria but is part of the Freistaat Bayern. Just like Franken. And the Oberpfalz. And, some would say, Niederbayern. However, the last Bavarian king seemed to like the Ostallgäu better than Bavaria itself, that´s why he intended to live there, and build more fancy castles than in Bavaria itself. Like this one, for example:

I think ludwig II liked the ostallgäu more than Altbayern is the fact that he found there the perfect settings to realize his fairy tale castles. I mean, look at all the calm lakes and zauber-forests
I think he'd be a fan of the schwarzwaldklinik nowadays...

as are the lower bavarian forests.
Imagine a 8 year old Decius dressed as a "roman" ( tunica made by my mum, plastic gladius and round shield, sandals, bamboo spear) racing through thick Nadelwald
