Good work everyone.

I tried to represent late VI early V century BC Spartan (I generalize intentionally)...Every picture that I see today is too vanilla and strawberry to me and I am sick of 300 propaganda as well. I think today Spartan red(all colors as a matter of fact) on pictures are way exaggerated, way colorful, and brass like armor is hilarious, not to mention everyone who draws or paints ancient warriors seem to forget physical power those men had..Today, depiction of them looks more like "Chinese(red red and only red) prostitute packed in tuna can", rather than dreaded warriors.

-I did all this by mouse, and by copy-paste and modify pictures i found on internet. So it lacks serious detail. It lacks also some weapons, shield insignia in random, etc because it is frustrating to do this by mouse. My point was in shade of color.

As in real world, especially war, nothing is so children book like colorful.
-Chiton is naturally colored. So washing it and using won't leave bright color, not even today with all detergents...
-Armor is thick dark bronze, not brass shiny. I know bronze, high tin content make it dark grey in color(see tons of statues from that time, and this time, tons of armor),and high tin content makes bronze stronger.it can be gold yellow but it is harder, and certainly not reflective as mirror(as modern replicas),it gets a little shiny if polished or overused but not like mirror in all areas(cheap brass does that).
-Warriors are real warriors..strong.Tens of kg-s of armor is not something anyone could wear with ease and fight.

And Spartans were the best warriors and the best soldiers in Hellas and the World, strong, and frightening...I think my work completes the dreaded picture of ancient Spartan character.

Fell free to comment or rework this please. I will post some pencil work,it will be better I hope.

PS: I see now color can differ much depending on your screen adjustments. If you find it too dark or too light, adjust.

All best

hello gents,
I usually do not draw classical age infantry but I did some for this one publication in Poland several years ago and here are the ones that had not been published - the book had to do with the battle of Aigospotamoi -
the are ' naval infantry', Spartan officer and Athenian hoplite with his ephebos aka page boy.
I got more Spartans, Athenians etc. I am in process of digitalizing these images, and hope to improve (by doing digital painting ) them a bit or a lot.
Most of my drawings and paintings from that folder had to do with the Thracians, for some reason I find them much more colorful to study and draw.
I am finishing a number of drawings representing Achaemenid army - no Greeks in that series - I will post some concept drawings etc.
hope you like - all critique is very welcome as I would like to improve these images...
