There is even TV footage of it: [url:r9hsfapb]http://www.dumpert.nl/mediabase/17674/1e471a13/index.html[/url]
On a related note: cyclist Francesco Moser (World Road Race Champion 1977) had invited his colleague Gerry Kneteman (World Road Race Champion 1978) to Rome, where bicycles are blessed by the chaplain of the church of Santa Francesca Romana on the ninth of March. So they attended mass, and when they left the church, they discovered that their bicycles had been stolen.

I've seen the video, not just the stills. It looks like someone tried to take the watch off in a classical 'pick-pocket' style manoeuvre, but they didn't quite manage it. The watch became loose and it looks to me like Bush quickly took it off and put it in his pocket.
Havimg said that, I'm still waiting for my new pair of glasses and with my eyesight at the moment it could have been taken by one the aliens from The Simpsons and I wouldn't have seen it!!

He's lucky, if Bush ever visited where I live he'd be left with no watch, no shirt and his car would be jacked up on bricks by the time he'd finished greeting the crowd

But could they really admit that the watch was stolen?
 What watch?
