The Sixth in California or the Sixth in South Carolina? Or some other Sixth?

Ave!
Best bet is to contact Rusty Myers, that group's commander. If you can't find him here on RAT, Legio VI Ferrata is listed on the Legio XX Links page:

He's good people, and he has a good group. Have fun!

Hey, I'm not a member of the VI Ferrata but I have met Rusty a few time and do regular business with him. It's a real quality group and I'm sure you're going to have a great time with them.
From I what I know of his group you don't need to sweat much going into the group, as I'm pretty sure Rusty has a lot of loaner equipment available until you can get a kit put together. In fact I'm sure that what a lot of members of this board will tell you to do, try out different things until you find whats right for you and the unti you are with. Don't purchase anything until you have a good understanding of what you are looking for, there is a lot of cheap and inexpensive gear out there, but you'll find you get what you pay for.
Just relax and if you feel like you want to start your kit, go with something simple like a tunica, that's something you really can't mess up, unless you buy it commercially, visit Matt's site and he has a lovely tutorial on how to make a tunic, what fabric to get, and how to sew it.
Good luck to you, and Maybe we'll see each other eventually at the Castra Lafe event in the years to come.
Just joined the VI Ferrata myself.
