So I am apart of the SCA and am trying to create a roman fighting Kit. My knight is suggesting that I go with a 4130 Chromoly to use for the Segmenta however it is starting to look like its going to be expensive to get my hand on where I live.
My question is what is your guy's opinions on 4130. What do you kjnow about it? Should I look for something other than that to make my armor?

Go to a junkyard, take the back panel off of a washing machine, polish the paint off of it and then you have a sheet of 20 gauge carbon steel.

I use a lot of computer cases. They come in a variety of thicknesses.

A sheet of 20 or 18 cold-rolled isn't that expensive, from my local area. A 4' x 4' sheet should give you more than enough material to work with, including some leftover in case you need it. I think I paid $35 or so...sorry; $35.52. I don't have experience with the 4130 (I have no idea what grade I picked up), but honestly I don't think it matters that much...

IIRC the closest stuff is like 10-40 or 50-60 Carbon Steel.
