Goodday to you all,
My first post here...
Let´s just "fall into the house with the door" as we say here in the Netherlands
- where are you from? Nijmegen, the Netherlands, but originally more from the Eindhoven area
- how'd you become interested in Rome? I was born with it, just like my passion for (military) history
- why are you here? To find some answers and perhaps give a few in the meantime
- do you re-enact, are you a student, an academic professional, or..? I have a degree in history but alas am not employed in it. My interests come from both the hobbyist´s and the academical point of view.
I´ve always loved history and pacticularly military history of just about all eras. Particular interests in (military) history are: WWI, WWII (specialised in aviation and U-boat warfare), military architecture, Egypt and of course Rome. As a period I enjoy the ancient times the most, although from a purely military perspective the World Wars are closest to me.
From the Roman era I am mostly interested in Republican Rome, especially the Punic Wars. Visiting Roman sites and admiring their architecture and life cycle really brings a lot of joy to me. In the past 15 months I´ve visited Tunisia, Hadrian´s Wall and Western Turkey which only left me thirsting for more!
I have history in my head at all times. Check out my signature for the attitude that pervades my life. 8)
Besides history I am very much into computer, board and table-top games. While my computer games tend to lie in the historical realm mostly (WWII FPS games, Total War series, U-Boat/flight Sims), my table-top games are oriented mostly at fantasy games of the Games Workshop brand (Warhammer Fantasy Battles, Man o´ War etc.). Unfortunately work and everyday distractions bar me from pursuing my hobbies the way I would really like to: I spend more time reading about and buying games and miniatures than actually painting and playing them. The same reason will cause me to drop out here from time to time until I suddenly reappear when you least expect it. Sometimes I publish (historical) articles on a Dutch website aimed at school pupils and the interested layman, although these are not of academic level of course.
Kind regards,
Cleaver
