This reply to Caeso Quintilius Etruscus:
Greetings and Welcome!

I live in Nova Britannia (aka New England - in Connecticut). I am part of Legio III Cyrenaica - and have an abiding interest in the Roman army of the Augustan age as my fellow soldiers in Legio III will tell you. My interests actually range from the early/mid-Republic to Late Roman.

Every year (in June of late) there is an event in Maryland, called Roman Days. It would be great if you and your friends of Legio XIII Gemina would be able to go down. Hosted by Legio XX. If you want more information, send me a private message. A great, relatively low key event at which to meet fellow Roman and Non-Roman reenactors - military and civilian.

Welcome to RAT - and by the way, what is your modern name? I'm not a moderator, but you will need to include it when you post - a good way is to include it in your signature - which you can create and then it will automatically be part of your postings.

Hello,

I've been on the forum for a couple days. I came to this site to get more information and research. I'm a writer that works in Science Fiction and Historical novels, mainly anything Roman related.

I'm from Sacramento, California and for the past 6 years I've worked in the video game industry as a writer, journalist and designer. I always look towards Rome for inspiration in my work and heard that this site was a good source of information, so I thought I would join.

Salvē!
I found this forum interesting and was going to lurk for a while but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the intro to this thread posted by none other than the illustrious editor of Ancient Warfare Magazine Jasper Oorthuys. Then I knew I had to register to take part.
As Jasper stated in the first post in this thread... let me introduce myself.
Call me CJ. I live in Northern Virginia for the time being.
How did I become interested in Roman antiquity and the legions in particular? I've had a life long fascination with history. I've also been raised in the military and have served in the military for 16 years. Having spent my entire life in the modern warrior culture it seems natural to me to study those that have gone before us.
So why am I here? To learn.
Do I re-enact. No.
I don't have a lot of time to post up but I might from time to time. See polite to introduce my self.
Thanks for your time.
Valē!

Hello all,

I am new here, found this site accidentally. I am not new to Roman history, but I already established that here, the level of knowledge is quite impressive.

I am pensioned, live on my boat, presently in Holland but will be next year in France. In my youth, I used to have a string of race-horses and for that I am quite interested in Roman cavalry and related subjects.

I am an admirer of Gaius Marius.

Welcome. There's been a lot of discussion on that period lately.

Hi together or "servus", as we say in Bavaria

I`m Jürgen, better known as Schorsch, from a little village northeast of Regensburg / Castra Regina in Bavaria.

I`m in the living-history hobby for about 15 years now, having started with a viking-style impression, then changed to a 7th-century bajuvarian which is still in progress and now, since about 3 years working on a reconstruction of a 5th-century germanic gravefind from Bavaria which includes many late-roman items such as military belt, sword etc. This guy might have been a former "foederatus" in the western army.
The other reason for my interest in roman (military-)history lays in my profession as a blacksmith. I´m trying do reconstruct several iron artifacts from early iron-age to 15th century including (of course) much roman stuff.

so, for the next days, i will have to read very much here in the forum, i think Smile

Welcome on RAT, Schorsch.

You already do a wonderful representation of a Late Roman persona together with Maria.
Furthermore I certainly do like your reproduction work.

Hey! My name's Kyle, Nickname's Junior, it's what I usually go by. I live in Topeka KS. I've always had an interest in Military History for about as long as I can remember, I really started getting into the Roman Empire about a month ago. I was looking up information about the different styles of armor, and most links kept taking me back here.

I'm interested in Roman Era Re-enacting, but I don't know nearly enough information to do a successful impression, so for now consider me someone who wants to learn!

Thanks.

Junior, this forum is, indeed, a great resource for information. Here are a couple more:

Always make sure you don't rely entirely on Wikipedia, as some of their information is less that scholarly. Hope that helps, and welcome to the forum!
