There was a time Sparta did not export her hunting hounds either Cry I like to think I am living in exile until the day I return and buy my castle- Castro Vardounia down by the Mani and liven up the place.

Hmm,are you really thinking of that idea? When retiring for example? And is there really a Vardounia castle,or is it a fantasy?
In exile, huh?Like king Demaratus?Herodotos likes him in a way.Well,I like him, too,as he is our main "Herodotian" source of the Spartan customs.

If it were for sale I'd seriously consider it. My guess is that the government owns it as a historical site. Its a Byzantine castle, later reworked by the Franks and then most famously governed by the Epirote Kladas clan who fought the turks when the Venetians gave up control of the region.

Bardounia is the borderland of the Mani, many famous battles there. Homer lists the town of Aegeae. A few centuries ago the turks settled many Turk-albanians in the northern part, but the majority of these fled to Tripolis during the revolution. My family is named after the region, but why and how I do not know.

2 men I would imagine.....saw a few post cards along that line as well. Could think of several candidates to send it to, but the company mail censors would probably confiscate it!!!

Tell you what Paul, I'll go halfs with you on the castle.....

I am in the process of ordering a corinthian myself, and hopefully will decide on the exact one soon Big Grin D 8)

Hmmmmm.....on closer examination, it could be a man and a woman :? lol:

I concur with you, Giannis. Homosexual acts are not frequently shown, so I wondered. But is the hat not just a form of petasos?

Well,I'd disagree in that actually.Homosexual scenes are almost as frequent as bisexual. This is not a hat,it's a cloth wrapped around the hair.It is frequently shown worn by hetaires but not only. And is it really this thread about helmets?Or maybe this head cover passed as a helmet by some

If it is worn during the duty of the lady, it is a kind of helmet.

Of course there are a lot of homosexual scenes in Greek art, but the sexual act is not so frequently shown, as far as I know.

If you ever come in Greece, you'll notice in touristic places they sell whole albums of vases with (homo)sexual scenes.I don't know why this notion exists, actually! It's easier to find those than catalogues of any other subject about Greece! :?
