Skeleton Cup
#1
A while ago I had a reproduction of a Roman cup,(now lost!) about 12cm high, fine pottery but I think the original was said to have been silver. Around the outside it was decorated with skeleton figures.
Anyone know where there are any images of the original or even if there are any copies being made?

Thanks

Thanks Tony,
I did find one on a seach, that example was the one in the Louvre but it is larger than the one I'm looking for, I don't know if this is the one you're thinking of?

Salve,

Forum Traiani sells a replica in clay

They say it is based on a silver beaker that was part of a treasure found in Boscoreale at the site of the Villa Pisanella.

I hope this helps.

Thanks jef,
That was the same one that I had, I'm going to see if I can get any images of the original in silver. I did also like the one in the Louvre that I found when I googled Roman silver cup, so I'm after any images that I can get.

Chances are that there is an older version in gold in the Palermo Museum in Sicily. Attributed to Epikurian philosophers.
If any one has a pic it would be great.

The cup that Forum Traiani sell in clay is the type I had but I can find no images of that in silver. All the images from the Boscoreale silver finds have the skeleton cup which is now in the Louvre. Is the clay version just a composite 'inspired' by the silver one?
I do intend to ask Forum Traiani, I just wondered if anyone here knew.

It would be great if more info come up.

One thing is sure though ancients had a taste for "gothic"

Not to be confused with the Goths Smile

Yes it would be great to find more images of the pieces.
I've done some searching for images of silverware but most seem to be single view pictures from museums. Anyone know of any books which have decent sets of images?
