Coolus E Helmet
#1
At the present time I have received a Coolus E helmet, I believe, with a third fastening ring on the neck guard and a dorsal plume that is divided fore and aft and is not threaded. I would like to know if this helmet is correct for a Coolus E helmet and is the helmet found in 46A.D. in Britain? Also I would like to know what size fastening thong is currently used be reenactors to fasten the helmet and its linking to all the helmet rings. Would this fastening thong have been used to carry the helmet by suspending it around the neck as I have seen on some illustrations? What size thong is thought to have been used by current reenactors?

Thank you for any help you can provide since this is admittedly a very obscure and remote topic.

Will,
can you post some pictures please? If you check the helmet index you should see some real examples.

thanks,

Pictures would be nice except for the fact that the only thing that I hate more than my computer is HillaryClinton. My verbal description though inadequate may aid in my effort to describe the helmet. It is a bronze/brass Coolus helmet with a plume(dorsal fin) that is not threaded internally and has a slit running fore and aft(that is forward and and backwards if you were not a marine or a sailor). A securing ring is on each cheek piece for a thong and a third ring is on the rear guard projection to prevent the helmet from being used to strangle its occupant. The thickness of the thongs supplied to me is suspect as I would have imagined them to be bigger and capable of being suspended around a soldiers neck. Thank you for replying, but my learning curve with this website is not as steep as it should be in order for me to know what is really happening. Primus pilus you certainly look the role and your committment to the research is a further vindication. Thank you for the response and please forgive any misspellings.

here u can see it hooked by the back ring and around my neck. to put it on i just untie it, feed each side of the leather to the cheekplate rings and tie them. ya ir rubs a tad on your neck, but this is the roman legion after all, no whining ehhehe jk Wink
