Priests equipment

Hello,

Legio XI CFP (Belgium) is thinking of re-enact civilian ceremonies. One of them would be a patrician marriage (confarreatio) from the first century. I'm considering taking the role of Flamen Dialis and for that I would like some advice.

* What colour should the tunica be? Is it the same size as a legionairs tunica?
* What colour should the toga be? Is the size the same as the avarage toga of the early empire?
* How can i make an apex (typical priests leather helmet with olive wood "top" on it and a "laena"), or where can I buy one?

Thanks in advance, and may the gods bless you all!

I can't answer your questions directly, but maybe you could email Jean (from Corbvlo), althrough he's a forum member by now, I don't see him here that much.

We also have a webpage about Roman marriage ceremony on our site. [url:3l4a2x8n]http://www.corbvlo.com[/url] Just choose for educatie Huwelijk On the english pages, we have only some photos.

Hello

To make the "apex" you can get a piece of leather an shape it to something close to a frigian hat. It have to be, if i remember well, of a white ox, but you can go for cow's leather if don't have superstition's troubles.

To make the point, you need some olive wood (very hard) and turned it. You can take some models at Vespasian Temple (Rome) or Ara Pacis. At Tarragona there is another one, but i don't have pictures.

A precision. The hat is called albogalerus (white hat) because is made with white colour oxs. The apex is only the point.

The colours and cut depend highly on the time and the cult you wanna present. Means, different cult, different clothes...different ceremony, different clothes.

Anyway, but I always miss in reenacted cults is the music, but at least you might also go a little deeper into texts an pronunciation for that.

For a wedding (the bride is me ;-) ) ):

The ceremony and the clothes are well researched. Altough my husband I wed there forgot to divorce me up until now. ;-) )

Interesting, did they actually do marriages? I know that they were very highstanding priests responsible for the Iupiter cult, weren't allowed to leave Rome, lived under special restrictions etc., but marriages?
