best place to buy a helmet in North America
#1
Salvete

I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times before, but I am in the market for several helmets and I'd like to ask the members for their superior experience.
Where is the best place to get a a reasonably authentic helmet in North America? :?

I have a great Gallic A from Joe Pila from the Lonely Mountain Forge. The wait time is about a year, but you will be very pleased with the work!

Salve Rustius Noricus,
You probably should have specified whether you wanted custom made or off the shelf. I would highly recommend anyone you will find in the Marketplace section of this forum. SOTW is excellent as are many others.
Just be sure to look for the "N" designator at the end of the model number which will be the most recent and most accurate version. All are very reasonable.
Vale.

I'm glad that you pointed that out, the "N" version from deepeeka, right?
These are the models approved by Dan Peterson I presume.

The "N" series products were all developed under the close supervision of our own Adrian Wink and other RAT people. See the Deepeeka section of the Marketplace.

Yeah, Piela is good. Dean Cunningham has made a number of excellent helmets as well. Does Matt Lukes make helmets? See the Legio XX Suppliers page for contact information and a couple more options:

Good luck and Vale,

Matt unfortunately, at the present anyway, does not do helmets... but he may have changed since I spoke last to him about that!

uh. no. And truth be told, not all of the 'Dan approved" stuff was ever actually approved by Dan, he may have given suggestions, but they were often not followed.

Yes,sorry, I forgot to put Deepeeka as the manufacturer using the "N" model identifier. As Matt said, concerning the "Dan approved" models, that was sometime ago and the current models were made using the formidable skills of RAT members Peroni, Tarbicus and more too numerous to mention.

Did anyone else notice that the Cheeck Pieces of the Late Cavalry Helmet (AH6722) are on backwards? $470 for a new "scewed up" helmet?
