25% discount on The Impact of the Roman army
#1
Hi all!
Almost forgot this:
Brill ( www.brill.nl ) is offering a 25% discount on The Impact of the Roman Army. (reviewed in Ancient Warfare 2). From that review: "This volume contains 30 articles on a multitude of subjects that all deal either with the army itself, or with the impact the Roman army had on the society around it.
The six parts of this book deal consecutively with the Republican army – recruitment and proletarianization, manpower, allies, the conquest of Spain, three parts on first general issues of the Imperial army and two geographically bound parts, the economic impact of the army and finally four articles on the army in the third century AD. There is one article about the later Roman army, which has been assigned to one of the geographical divisions.
The disadvantage to all such volumes is the quite broad spectrum of subjects tackled, even though they all fall under the same general heading. Most articles do follow that broad heading quite well and focus on the relationship between the army and the empire as a whole, be it its impact on geographical regions, on the economy or on people and peoples.
The book is very nicely published in hardback format. Photos and illustrations on the whole reproduce fairly well on normal paper, but don’t buy it for that feature. There is an index nominum and index rerum."

For the seriously interested. Discount code is IMEM2007, valid until the end of this year.
Greets!

Is it safe to guess that the book is in English?

I ask only because I see it is coming from the Netherlands.

Good question. It's mostly in English, but there are articles in German, French, Spanish and Italin too.

Jasper, thanks for this. It did occur to me when reading the thread title that an awful lot of Rome's enemies would have really appreciated a 25% discount on the impact of the Roman army!!
