Fields Of Glory -- New Game System?
#1
A question for the Forum: Is anyone familiar with this new rule set from Osprey due for publication in early 2008?

It is called Fields Of Glory and seems to have a main rule book and then a number of supplements and army lists that deal with specific time periods, locations, battles, etc. I tried the Forum Search to see if this topic had come up before but found nothing.

Is this an entirely new rules set?
A re-working of an old set?
An amalgamation of several other sets?
Or...?

31st October 2007 - Field of Glory Pre-Orders!

We're pleased to announce we are now taking pre-orders for the Field of Glory gaming system and the first 5 companion books.

Field of Glory is a new historical tabletop miniatures gaming system for anyone interested in recreating the battles of Rome, Greece or the Holy Land, among others. This series is intended to give both beginner and expert gamers everything they need to play the battles of ancient and medieval eras on their tabletops. Tested and created by gaming experts, this series includes a rulebook detailing the gaming system, and companion army books which help players select and build their historically accurate army with the relevant units or troop types they want to take onto the field of battle. The striking Field of Glory rulebook includes color coding for easy navigation, clear photographs of miniatures and diagrams (showing rules examples, troop placements, scale considerations and more), detailed Osprey artwork, a comprehensive painting guide, an overview of the history of this world of warfare, organization tables and a background to the men who fought on the ground. Containing two ready to use army lists, this rulebook can either stand alone and be used for immediate gaming, or can be combined with the companion volumes to recreate a more diverse range of conflicts.

If you are new to tabletop miniatures gaming you can find out more details on wikipedia. What this doesn't tell you however is the friendship and fun that can be had while enjoying a good wargame. Then you have the chance to re-live the battle down the pub afterwards!

Click on the book below to pre-order your copy and be one of the first to get playing!

Perhaps someone from Slitherine will chime in with more information, or we may just have to wait until next year when a few Forum members have had a chance to play and can provide the rest of us with a review -- perhaps a review in Ancient Warfare magazine... :? D

Thanks again Jasper

You can dig around their Forum at http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=20

Discussions, battle reports, etc. - includes the beta testers forum so you can see what was said by the testers during development.

yeah, it is a new rules set, and actually a company, I dont remember which is making some plastic minis for it. Some republican romans, and some celts. I think that the minis are hard plastic. I saw a post on The Miniatures Page about it.

Great link Jasper -- thanks!

This could be exactly what I have been looking for -- quality 28mm war game sized figures in plastic. Perfect for "little hands" fighting big battles.

Thanks again. Big Grin
