Hi all!
The Roman festival here in Nijmegen (August 23-24 2008) will be (very, very likely) be held on the Kopsche Hof, the site of an Augustan HQ(?) and Julio-Claudian Batavian cavalry encampment (the one where the famous cavalry masks come from). Part of the event will be the reconstruction of part of the wall and hopefully we'll get permission to dig the ditch as well. We're looking at using reproduction tools of finds on the site.
Now there will be legionaries and hopefully auxiliaries too, but we want to investigate the possibility of acquiring enough kit to equip 10 irregular and semi-regular (ie mixed kit) Batavian infantrymen such as depicted by Johnny Shumate in Ancient Warfare I.1. So let's discuss necessary items, where to get them and what it would cost. And oh, yeah, this may be the one and only time to get me in Roman kit. All of you who've been clamoring for that for years, here's your chance! Sponsorships will be gladly accepted.

Sounds excellent.....suspect that if we can get enough from COH I BAT, this could be sorted? Peronis- thought?

Hi all,
I love the one chance of seeing Jasper in kit. So just in case you can't raise the funds to buy the stuff the least I can do is lend you the appropiate kit.
Granted, not as beautiful as in Johnny's artwork. But at least we will get to see you kitted out, Jasper !

We would like to do something with the history of the place where the event, hopefully, would be held. To make it possibel to have more batavians there, we would like to equip some local people, including our own Jasper.

10 shields, straid-sided, kessel. (se AWM issiu 1, vol 1, page 25) or oval.
10 helmets
10 spears
10 belts
10 swords
10 tunics
10 pairs of trousers
10 pairs of shoes
optional pugiones for regular clothed auxilia.
All first part first century AD
We want as much deversity in equipment as possible. So not one uniform group.
