Erasmus in Freiburg
#1
Freiburg im Breisgau to be exact.

Three months there in job practice, to end there my "Higher Title in Mechanical Designing Development". Whith a renamed Leonardo scholarship
(now "upgraded" to Erasmus, budget downgraded to a third part... :? )
From 10 March to 1 June.

Any knows a roman, medieval, archeological museum near?
Any castle or armoury museums?
Any reenactment events/groups there?
Any has been there?

Thanks!

I will need to add the European Union flag to my profile. This year I would be more time out of my country than in... Big Grin
well, I´ll change it to Baden-Württemberg´s while there...

Stuttgart has a nice museum; you may also consider Worms, and -a bit further- Mainz, Mainz, Mainz. I hope this helps a bit.

...but seriously folks --- who needs to travel to Karlsruhe or Stuttgart, when he "can have it" around Freiburg ??

(I have to admit that my sense of "local-pariotism" feels a tiny bit flattered here -- but of what use is this here ? )

1. There are musea in Basel, Moulhouse and Strassbourg who also deal with the subjects, well -- and Freiburg also got his own historical museum.
Since Freiburg also got an university of renown they also got a philosophial faculty here, parts of which are dealing with history and archeology. These guys are participating in excavating on of the larger roman sites in the area, just over the rhine in Kunheim near Breisach.
This is in fact one of the larger roman excavations running north of the Alps which brought significant evidence for provincial roman history in this area. (They may have a small exhibition of their findings ?? Of course the french community of Kunheim-Biesheim has been providing a decent Museum there which got some good reviews.)

2. And there we are with the next topic: ...who needs to .... when there are so many medieval and roman historical sites around.
Well, Freiburg got a castle and so does nearly every settlement on the border to the Black Forrest and the Vosges alike.
And from Roman times: From South to north we have Basel (with Kaiseraugst--Augusta Raurica not too far away !), Münsterhügel, a Gallic Oppidum, a late-roman fortification alike and a bridgehead from the same era on the other bank of the rhine (I don't know whether THIS is still accessible in the Utengasse). We have Bad Bellingen -- the romans used to bath nearby. We have Mulhouse. Badenweiler, one one the largest Spas the romans built left of the Rhine. We have that giant "villa urbana" at Heitersheim. We have Breisach -- Mons Brisiacus. On the other bank we have Biesheim-Oedenburg-- Argentovaria. Back on the german bank we got the small late-roman fort of Sponeck-Jechtingen. A bit farther "inland" we got Riegel. In Alsace we got Colmar -- Horbourg/Illzach as late-roman fortifications. (Still on my "to do"-list"!) Then we got Freibourg.---- and there a re a lot of other interesting Musea and sites --- you won't get bored.

3. For this reason i have added a few LINKS:
