Douris. Brussels and Louvre Museums.
Page 4 Lion of Isagoridae clan Athens.
This is the lion of Zeus Carios or Careios.
A different form (head only) appeared on the shields of Geomoroi in Samos

Kind regards

Quote:Wow, a scale shield? What purpose would that serve other than decorative?

An oval shield entirely composed of scales was found in a Scythian burial of the 5th C. BC in Simferopol'. It measured 125 x 70 cm. So obviously scale shields were not too impractical to be unable to wield in combat.
Ruben

He had with him the selfsame rifle you see with him now, all mounted in german silver and the name that he\'d give it set with silver wire under the checkpiece in latin: Et In Arcadia Ego. Common enough for a man to name his gun. His is the first and only ever I seen with an inscription from the classics. - Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian

Quote:It is curious that no one else has attempted a recreation of a scale cuirass while many linothoraxes have been done.

As Giannis said the Hoplite Association members have made some. A picture at bottom of their web page - link from old RAT

They also seem to have done some in part scale, part linen - as shown on Giannis' post here

There are more pics on their other site too - [url:xpu04s8s]http://www.4hoplites.com/Warfare.htm[/url]
