Iron folding stools weigh a lot when packing for the weekend. I stick to wooden benches, wooden stools, a folding wooden stool, and lots of trestle tables. Being camp furniture you can stick to the less impressive period woods like beech, apple and oak. I do have one box in black walnut, but that wood be a rare thing in northern Britain. If all else fails get a red deer skin and stick to the floor. You can't fall off it.

I purchased the iron work from a member of legio XXX who is also a blacksmith. The seat I made.
It folds along both dimensions.
