Spanish Swords
#1
Hello all,

Does anyone know the general dimensions (length range, width range) on a Spanish straight sword? Not The later La Tene style, but the earlier one that may have been (he says as he just wants to measurements, not to start an argument) an influence on the Roman hispaniensis?

Thank you in advance.

Cordially,

Hi Michael!

I'll try to help you quickly...

The sword you're interested corresponds to a celtiberian modification of the previous La Tene I gallic model. In particular, the Fernando Quesada's VIIC-D types, units from La Osera, El Atance, Gormaz, La Azucarera (QUESADA 1997, pag. 266).

The dimensions of its blade are around 60 cm. length and 4-5 cm. weidth. with parallel edges.
Maybe, you cand find more information and images here, with original comments of Fernando Quesada:

Laudes and Many thanks.

I was aware of the length of the Falcata as around 60 cm, but could not find anything on the straight sword. I could only find one picture of one straight sword with a falcata next to it as any sort of reference.

Thank you again very much!
