Interesting article! I think, now that it's pointed out, that the goatskin bag is a very real possibility for the gear bag. Naturally, we can't know from TC what was in the bag, but the proposition is very valid, I think.
It would be a strong, easy way to make the bag from the hide of yesterday's dinner. I wonder if it would still have the hair on? Oiled hair-on skins are more water resistant than tanned leather with the hair off. Assuming that the leather was tanned may not be a valid thing, though. Rawhide would work just as well, as long as it wasn't desirable for the bag to be flexible and stretchy.

I can see them, and that is weird, because I'm offshore.....usually can't see any links here.

Ade,
interesting article. A single pole would work as shown, but I sort of rely on my cross bar to secure everything down a bit, with the main pole/vertical pole bearing almost all of the weight. I wish they had a few more pictures of how they rig everything up so I could replicate nad play with it a bit. The links and pictures worked fine for me, but I also just recently updated all my drivers, codex, java scripts etc. Thanks for sharing and I like the new updated look to their website. Mike
