I have an OT question, but don't want to make a whole new thread for it. Is it acceptable to paint the Corinthian Helmet? I really, really like the look of some hoplite reenactors that have only painted the lower section of the helmet black.

Why not Chris?, that was a common practice way down to hellenistics.

You may already know of this example but some evidence for the black painted Corintians we have seen reconstructed is here in the Arming scene by Douris. Also note the scale topped helmets like the examples in Munich. Some reconstructions seem to be painted scales and some actual scales (Manning http://www.manningimperial.com/item.php ... =3&c_id=56 ).
