I was thinking of making brass greaves at 20 gauge (.8mm) thickness.
Is this too thin for a centurions greaves which will be embossed with some designs.
Thanks

Should be fine. 18 or 20 gauge will do for Roman-style greaves that only cover the front of the leg. I used 18 for my Greek greaves that wrap all the way around, though, and found that's really too thick for them to work properly. 20 gauge will emboss nice and sharply while still being plenty strong enough.
Good luck!

I am making mine out of 18 gauge right now. They are much easier to shape than the 16 gauge I used on my earlier attempts. Once they are sanded, I am sure they will be closer to 20 gauge.
