Caesar
#1
Hi. Did everyone notice the finds in France, including the bust of Caesar?
It is from last year, but first I noticed.

Let's hope they publish more updates! That's a great statue of Caesar.

When I look at the statue shown here I am more inclined to say it looks an awful lot more like LUCIUS CORNELIUS SULLA FELIX than Caesar, it almost matches the picture of a bust of SULLA in the book Chronicle of The Roman Republic by Philip Matyszak.

I'm inclined to agree that it just doesn't look like Julius Caesar.
It seems oddly familiar, though.

Maybe the French Culture ministry have been unduly influenced by Uderzo's rendition?! Smile

Thanks for posting that article Dan Smile

I think Dr. Beard makes a good point, one that echoes what is being said in another thread on this topic over in the "Off Topic" area.

While I am certainly no expert in this field, I'm not buying the idea that this is a bust of Julius Caesar. Not yet anyway. :?

While I like the idea of erecting a statue to him and making a historic theme area, that looks more like Claudius, or a more modern politician to me...
