I chose the name Phoenician because I have a large interest in Phoenician and Carthaginian history. I am interested in many other areas as well, however.

Great photos and article. Sad to hear that the Ministry of Culture apparently is not that cultural and forbade you to visit the tomb of the Athenians and the other sites...
It is a shame really. M.VIB.M. Am wondering though... if you would wear a chiton during the day in Athens, as summer dress, without armour etc, would they still refuse you entrance to the Akropolis even when you pay the entrance fee ? Are there any clothing regulations for when visiting ancient sites ?

Yes, they seemed to have become stricter during the year before the Olympics.
I was on the observation point on the acropolis and had taken my shirt off to dry it out a bit, when a guard came and told me to put it back on. The year before there were quite skimpily clad people all over....or so it seemed to me lol

Very cool, I really do wish I could have made it. Is there any plans on other big gatherings?

The battle of Marathon re-enactment is over! It has been a successful meeting, come alive only by the determination of the participants. We had up to fifty hoplites, and about 60 campers. It was definately the largest gathering of hoplites so far, and i think the quality of equipment was above average. The camp live was so much fun and i think most of us created friendly bonds with everyone.
On Saturday 10/9 and Sunday 11/9 at 10:00 we marched 2.2 km from our camp at the Schinias bay to the trophy of Miltiades, and excecuted a ceremony for the fallen Greeks and Persians of the Battle. Then we marched back to camp and at 14:30 we recreated the last phase of the battle of Marathon, the battle of the ships, where many famous Athenians fell. Next time, I will be there! (Not in 2500 years, though!)

I call three cheers for Giannis and Christian! At times it may have seemed like fortune was against us, and some things that we desired were occluded, but in the end, the event carried through thanks to their undauntable efforts.
