gr,
Jeroen Pelgrom Rules for Posting I would rather have fire storms of atmospheres than this cruel descent from a thousand years of dreams.

If I am employed and have the time off, I would be interested in attending.

The Landesmuseum still has its Roman section closed off. I wonder if anyone here has connections that would allow a small, highly interested group a peek behind the scenes?

Right across the Rhine from Mainz is Wiesbaden.
The "Sammlung Nassauischer Altertümer" there includes the helmet from Wiesbaden with the interesting combination of eyes, eyebrows, cross reinforcement and lunulae and, I believe, also the Hofheim helmet with the controversial dating. It also includes a substantial number of tombstones. It is closed for many years to come but appears to be open for pre-arranged group visits: [url:221bhj3l]http://www.museum-wiesbaden.de/03379098ee145ac0a/index.html[/url] If time allows. this museum would offer a richer harvest for the RAT imagebases than the well documented Mainz museums.

Good idea Jens! It would allow Crispvs to see Crispvs.

Lovely indeed.

Sounds nice, indeed. I'm really looking forward to the next conference, again.

I am interested of course and would love to be able to confirm my place but as always money is in extremely short supply and so unless my fortunes change considerably I might have to stick with being just 'interested'.
"It would allow Crispvs to see Crispvs. " I am sure that woud be an experience, but I am a little confused. I am missing something here? Crispvs

Possibly a view of your namesakes tombstone?

The famous tombstone of Caius Valerius Crispus is at the Wiesbaden museum. Sorry, too obscure?
I should actually have said "would allow the Crispi", cause you're not the only one.

Ah, I see.
Actually the Crispvs I take the name from is P. Atilivs Crispvs, who commanded a vexillation of the 14th legion and as a consequence appears on someone else's (off the top of my head I can't remember whose right now) tombstone. Each member of the RMRS takes on the name of a genuine member of the 14th legion. Still, I would, of course, be very keen to see C. Valerivs Crispvs up close. There are a number of unusual features to his stone which would certainly warrent a personal visit to view it up close. Crispvs

Salvete Omnes!
Sign me up for the saterday and sunday! And yes, I did notice the payment request, which will be remitted in due course. Attendence seems low. Any way of plugging this thread to those who answered the poll??

It's about time to send out a newsletter again. I'll do so in a bit.
